I had PRP injections for a torn ligament.

I went to the doctor’s office because I had a pain in my knee that wouldn’t go away.

It was getting more difficult to walk, and it was keeping me awake at night. My husband told me I had to go to the doctor or quit complaining. The doctor wasn’t happy when I got there. He sent me for xrays and a CT scan. He told me I had a torn ligament, and sent me to the orthopedists on duty. He talked about surgery and how much down time I would have, but that wasn’t possible. I had two teenagers at home, and I had to be mobile. He offered me another alternative. He said he could some of my blood and put it in a centrifuge. What would be left was would be platelet rich plasma that would be injected into the torn ligament. It would take a couple of weeks, and probably more than one injection, but the body would heal itself because of the PRP injections. I would need to use crutches for a while, but it should be almost as good as new within two or three months. I was stuck on the amount of time, and asked how long I would be off my feet if I had the surgery. He said it would be about two weeks, but within six to eight weeks, I would be back to work. I shouldn’t be looking at the timing, but the fact I wouldn’t be getting surgery with the PRP injections. Cutting came with a lot of possible complications, where there were practically none with the PRP injections. I needed to talk to my husband before making a decision.
