What to do to your home when you leave for vacation to save on HVAC costs
When I was younger I can always remember going on vacations.
Vacations were something that I Iooked forward to especially when I was still in school.
I would have a calendar in my room and always count down the days until we would go on our family vacation. Some of the places that my family and I would go to would be beaches, national parks, mountains and camping sites. There are so many memories and pictures. Before we would embark on our family journey my parents would make sure that the home was secured and everything was shut off. My parents would make sure that the blinds and curtains would be closed to prevent our home becoming really warm since we would take our vacations in the summer. By closing the blinds and curtains it would minimize the sun rays entering our home and increasing the temperature. When the temperature would increase then our air conditioning system would kick on. My parents tried to minimize the amount of times the air conditioner would have to kick on. They would also do this by setting the thermostat to a higher temperature. When a temperature is set higher on the cooling mode of a thermostat, the a/c system is not going to run as much. My parents told me that they would set their thermostat to 78 degrees. I am grateful for the vacations that my family and I went on when I was younger. Now that I have a family of my own I take them on vacations as well as following my parent’s cooling savings costs.
