My husband was doing a puzzle and ignored the HVAC technician.
They chatted for almost an hour when the HVAC technician remembered he had one more repair to do before he could go home
Very few people know my husband is going deaf. He has hearing aids, but he hates to wear them when people are around. I told him he should wear them when people are here so he can hear what they are saying. He thinks he hears enough to get him by, but he is wrong. Last week, the HVAC technician came to the house to make some minor repairs to the furnace. My husband sat at the kitchen table working on a puzzle that I didn’t like. It was almost the same color on all the flowers. Everything was green and red, and it gave me a headache. Whether he was engrossed in the puzzle or had his hearing aids off didn’t matter. The HVAC technician came upstairs and started talking to him. The man was talking loud enough, but he thought my husband was ignoring him. I walked over and nudge my husband, and that’s when he realized the HVAC technician was there. He apologized as he was turning his hearing aids on. The HVAC technician lost all sign of him being upset and sat down to tell my husband what was wrong with the furnace. They chatted for almost an hour when the HVAC technician remembered he had one more repair to do before he could go home. I think not listening to the HVAC technician was a turning point for my husband. He not only puts his hearing aids first thing in the morning, but he turns them on. He can hear everything in the house, and the ticking of the clock is driving him crazy.
