No water for shower after a run

Last Saturday, I was thrilled to get up in the morning and not need to head straight into work.

  • For once, I had a free day entirely to myself.

As soon as I crawled out of bed, brushed my teeth and put up my hair, I dressed for an outdoor run. I laced up my sneakers and went through a very thorough warmup and stretch of my muscles. With no time constraints, I decided on an especially long and strenuous route. The route I chose winds around the town, climbs uphill, circles a very large and old cemetery and takes me twelve miles to return home. When the weather is cool, the run is challenging. That Saturday, the temperature climbed steadily into the mid eighties. There was no hint of a breeze, and the humidity was absolutely brutal. By the time I arrived in my driveway, I was dripping sweat and exhausted. I went through my cool down, gulped my water bottle and was really excited to take a cool shower. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had no water. Since I have no clue how to repair a water problem, I called a plumber and explained the situation. The receptionist was very nice and promised to have a technician at the house within a couple of hours. When the plumber showed up, I apologized for being wet with sweat and stinky. I then waited another hour while he completed the repairs. By the time I finally got to take my shower, my exhilaration over the run had worn off.
