The heating serviceman sorts our smelly electric heat pump issue

When my roommate & I leased our first apartment after campus, the people I was with and I got hit by the worst heating device disaster.

Our electric heat pump was emitting a foul smell.

The two of us couldn’t turn it off because it was cold. The two of us had tried every recommendation the people I was with and I found online, including changing our HEPA filter, which all the people said could be the reason… But the people I was with and I didn’t solve the internal electric gas furnace issue, & the smell persisted. The two of us offered up & called the heating dealer & asked them to send an Heating & Air Conditioning professional to help us sort out the problem. The air smelt like rotten, & the people I was with and I couldn’t invite our friends over. The heating serviceman came over more than one afternoons after our call, & she knew what our problem was instantly after she smelt it. The Heating & Air Conditioning serviceman explained that there was easily moisture trapped within the drain pan of the electric heater, similar to how smelly water gets trapped in the refrigerator drain pan. The humidity can be prevented by ensuring the people I was with and I keep up with furnace maintenance; otherwise, we’d keep having the same problem, which would easily cost us the entire furnace if it got damaged. The Heating & Air Conditioning company also told us to be keen about other smells like fish, sulfur, or burning because they could mean that our heating unit could be damaged from a dangerous electrical fault. The two of us were not happy about the new adulthood responsibilities & panicked a little, especially me, who kept thinking that such faults could burn the beach house down with us trapped inside. The Heating & Air Conditioning expert observed our panic & assured us that it was something the people I was with and I could certainly see & take care of on the precious occasion it happened. It’s been a year since that incident, & the people I was with and I haven’t smelled anything new. The two of us even added a wireless thermostat when the people I was with and I could afford one just before winter.
