I didn’t know what the HVAC technician was talking about.
My husband and I had the HVAC technician to our house, helping us choose the right air conditioning unit for our home.
- I thought we were just going to order a simple central air conditioning unit, but I was wrong.
The HVAC technician talked about the size of the household, the load we put on the AC unit, and the tonnage. When he started talking about SEER, I got up to walk away. My husband grabbed my hand and asked the HVAC tech to explain what he meant. He told us that the size of the household will affect how many thermostats will be turned on, and how much power is being used to cool the spaces. Load is not just the size of household, but how often people are in and out of the house, When he said tonnage, it is how the air conditioning units are measured. The higher the loac on the air conditioning unit, the higher the tonnage needs to be. SEER refers to its energy efficiency. Energy efficiency is how much money you use to pay for the energy to run the air conditioning unit. The SEER should be over seventeen, but the higher you go, the more energy efficient the AC unit will be. My husband laughed and said the higher the SEER, means the higher the priced on the AC unit. My husband laughed again when the HVAC tech smiled, and asked him to give him a price and we would give them a call. I knew we would buy the energy efficient AC unit from this young man, but my husband always took his time when spending money.
