50% of apartment energy consumption is from HVAC

I live in a town property which is sandwiched between 2 other townhouses. And though most people might prefer the end units, I like being in the middle because it makes me feel safe plus protected, and for instance, when a major storm hits, my property will be more protected than the property on the end. Also, I am far less exposed to the traffic on the street! Living in between 2 houses can also have its negative qualities. For one, if the neighbors were noisy that could become frustrating. Thankfully, I have pretty quiet neighbors on both sides. They are so quiet that the only noise I hear is their Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C units when I am in the yard. The neighbors’ Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C units cycle on more often than my unit does. And they are never in sync because as one cycles off the other will cycle on again, and my temperature control is set at 75 degrees which is the recommendation of the Department of Energy. It’s obvious to me that my next door neighbors have their temperature controls set at lower temperatures. If I am sitting in the yard for a while, their Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C units cycle on plus off at least twice in that span of time. My system will cycle on once if at all. I use my Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C conservatively because it saves energy plus saves me money on my utility bill. After all, the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C unit causes the highest consumption of energy for most homes, and based on the information that I gained from my utility dealer, my Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C is responsible for half of my consumption, however so, it just makes sense for me to run my Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C a lot less. If only my neighbors knew to do the same, they would save money on their energy use as well.
