Getting comfortable at the gym
I read blogs on how to properly warm up, stretch and cool down
When I initially signed up for a gym membership, I had no idea how to effectively or properly workout. I was intimidated by the gym members who seemed to be proficient using all of the machines. I worried about embarrassing myself or potential injury. However, I was determined to lose weight and improve my physical fitness. I just wasn’t sure how to go about it. For my first few visits to the gym, I strictly rode the stationary bike. I figured that there was no way to mess that up. The machine is very self-explanatory. I pedaled the bike for a solid hour without adding any resistance. By playing around with the various buttons, I learned how to take advantage of the wide variety of programs. I could choose a route that included lots of hills and customize the length and difficulty of the session. Getting familiar with the bike helped to give me a bit of confidence. I felt sure that I could manage the treadmill as well. The first few times, I strictly walked on the treadmill. Gradually, I worked my way up to sprinting and even adding an incline. I was so focused on becoming an expert at operating the machines, that I wasn’t all that aware of how I was improving my strength and stamina. It wasn’t until after I’d mastered the elliptical that I looked in the mirror and noticed the change and improvement in my body. I’d lost weight and gained muscle tone. I was also confident exploring the equipment and machines at the gym. I tried out the rowing machine and loved it. I read blogs on how to properly warm up, stretch and cool down. I rewarded myself with a new wardrobe of athletic attire and a good quality pair of sneakers.
