Ready to open the air conditioning bill
I’m actually looking forward to the first real air conditioning bill of the year.
It’s now mid May and so I won’t see that bill for a bit longer. The air conditioning will be cranking up to its Summer levels in the next few weeks. But I’m actually sort of ready for it this year. Most years at this time, I’m dreading the fact that our temperatures have skyrocketed and the humidity level is insane. Not only is it pretty uncomfortable but it gets really expensive as well. Yet, I’ve been so lax when it comes to actually preparing for the Summer weather that I know is coming. It was somehow easier to just ignore the fact that I was overpaying when it came to cooling the house. Well, with the inflation that is crushing our budget this year, I had to get serious about saving on air conditioning. That started with getting the air conditioning tune up done by the HVAC professionals. Having a heat pump running at its most efficient is the first thing to do. From there, I focused on what I could do to the house to maximize the efficiency of the heat pump. It’s all about the seal on the house really. So I replaced weather stripping and even made sure that any and all gaps on the exterior were sealed. We also bought some solar shades for the side of the house that gets direct sunlight. Sunlight heating is a big problem and will rob you blind if left unchecked. I’ve also figured out just how to maneuver the thermostat setting to keep the cooling coming when we need it. But to lighten the load on the heat pump during the peak heating hours of the day.
