She only uses the cottage during summer and over winter holidays
One of the things about having a cabin in the woods is the added amount of labor it takes to heat it.
- Sheila only used the cabin during summer time and over the Wintertide holidays.
Her family enjoyed going there for Christmas, and she and her partner would take a long weekend to get the home ready. Sheila and her partner would wash the cabin, get the fireplace and the chimney spotless, and decorate. This year, there had been many storms that had knocked trees down. Sheila wanted to clear some of the mess, however her partner knew the downed trees would be perfect for the fireplace. He would chop up the downed wood, divide some of it into smaller pieces, and pile it on the back porch so they had it for heat. Before Sheila and her partner left, they had enough wood to keep them going through the entire holiday season, and then some. After splitting wood and piling it up on the porch, Sheila and her partner had to take some in to get warm. It had been snowing the entire time they were in the woods. Sheila and her partner were frosty and starting to feel miserable. Her partner got the fire started in the fireplace while Sheila got the generator going to get some hot water. It wasn’t long before they were getting hot baths and then they snuggled in front of the fireplace. Sheila said that this long weekend was the highlight of their holiday season. They got to sit in front of the fireplace and have some alone time. Once the holidays started, there would be no more alone time for them.
