Converting from oil to gas furnace is worth the cost

My husband and I spent months checking real estate listings, consulting with agents and touring properties for sale.

After waiting so long to finally move our family out of an apartment in the city to the suburbs, we were unwilling to compromise.

We were looking for a safe neighborhood in a good school district. Plenty of property, a two-car garage, four bedrooms and at least two full bathrooms were priorities. When we found the ideal house for sale within our price range, there was only one drawback. The heating system was an oil furnace. I really didn’t like the idea of having a gigantic, ugly tank sitting in our backyard. I worried about leaks and the potential of running out of fuel. With the sub zero temperatures and long winters in our local area, going without heat isn’t an option. Scheduling fuel delivery was stressful and an aggravation. Plus, the furnace wasn’t overly efficient and struggled to keep up with demand. However, the reason we could afford such a huge plot of land and an amazing house was because everything was super outdated. We needed to invest into a new stove, refrigerator, washer, dryer and water heater. The plumbing pipes, drains and fixtures needed to be replaced. The electrical panel and wires failed to meet safety codes and required updating. It took us nearly five years to finally replace the furnace. Converting from oil to natural gas and installing a brand new furnace was an expensive project. It was definitely worth it. Not only is the house far more comfortable during the winter, but our monthly utility bills are considerably lower. Plus, I’ve noticed that the house stays cleaner and smells better.
