I was keen to put the smart thermostat to the test

The winter that just ended was incredible.

I can’t believe it already but I started to notice that the tree now has tiny green leaves.

Late February in the southern hemisphere means spring is almost here. The first signs of spring are daffodils, greenery, and pollen. This always puts a smile on my face, but they also remind me it’s time to give the HVAC tech a call. A local forecast saying that highs will remain in the 80s will come as a complete surprise to me. It will be a few months before that becomes the norm. The 80s will eventually become the 90s. When the temperature hits 90 degrees, however, I know I’ll need something to help me feel more at ease. I like to keep the windows open so long as the temperature during the peak heating hours remains in the 70s. That’s because we can forgo turning on the air conditioner at night when the temperatures drop. When temperatures drop below 80 degrees in the evening, the heat pump activates. As a result, we have made it a point to promptly schedule air conditioning maintenance. However, I plan on using some cutting-edge HVAC equipment to keep me cool this summer. I’m curious to see how much the heat pump’s efficiency improves now that we have a smart thermostat. We set up the smart thermostat last fall, and it hasn’t had to work too hard since then. Our heat pump rarely has to work during the winter because the weather is so mild. After months of observation, the smart thermostat has learned our cooling habits and will now adjust accordingly.
