Loving my gym membership

For our tenth wedding anniversary, my husband gifted me with a membership to the local fitness center.

Since I make exercise a priority, it was a very thoughtful gift.

I typically devote about six minutes per day to my workouts. Until then, I’d always handled my exercise at home and on my own. I enjoy doing my own thing and have no desire to be around other people. I like to go for long runs, ride my bike, jump rope, lift weights and paddle my kayak. However, I didn’t want to waste my husband’s money. I appreciated his effort and decided to make the most of the gym membership for the year. I had no plans to renew the membership after that. I had no idea of the benefits offered by an organized fitness center. Working out at the facility has significantly elevated my level of strength, stamina and overall health. There is no way to duplicate the assortment of machines with a home gym. When I utilize the amenities at the fitness center, I have no worries over the weather. The facility is always perfectly temperature controlled. I don’t get distracted by the need to make dinner, clean something or walk the dog. When I’m at the gym, I am totally focused on my workout. I’m far more motivated. It’s a great opportunity to clear my head and de-stress. I always feel energized and in a positive mood afterward. I make an effort to utilize as much of the equipment and as many of the machines as possible. There are numerous styles of treadmills, a variety of stationary bikes, multiple rowing machines, a whole selection of ellipticals and several stair-climbers. The strength-training machines concentrate on every different muscle group from triceps and biceps to glutes. There are every imaginable type of free weight, dumbbell, kettlebell and medicine ball. I sometimes use resistance bands and enjoy the battle ropes.
