My Old Thermostat Is Finicky

Last week, I felt like I had my thermostat set at the optimal temperature for the first time ever

My house came with a super outdated thermostat. I’ve never lived in a house with a thermostat that wasn’t electronic so when I moved in, I had to acclimate myself with the new thermostat. To be honest, I’ve been living here for 6 months and I still don’t think I’ve gotten used to the dial thermostat. It’s a brass, dial thermostat, which means that everything has to be changed by hand. The numbers on the dial are so tiny that it’s almost impossible to read unless there’s a proper amount of light. This makes things challenging during the evening when the house is dark. For the past 6 months, I’ve felt like I’ve been trying to acclimate myself with the thermostat in order to get the most out of it. The dial is really finicky, which means that my house is never the comfortable temperature I want it to be. I feel like I’m constantly tweaking the settings in order to get the temperature of my house at a desirable temperature. Trying to keep up with all of this is difficult because I get the feeling that all the temperature changes are only hurting my HVAC system. I’m not sure if this is actually a thing, but I feel uneasy about constantly changing the temperature of a house because it may be confusing for the HVAC system. Last week, I felt like I had my thermostat set at the optimal temperature for the first time ever. The temperature of my house was comfortable no matter what time of day it was and I haven’t touched the finicky thermostat since.
