Romance almost killed the heat pump

My wife and I are now in our 19th year.

It’s really sort of hard to believe.

I think the fact that we don’t share the central air conditioning of our home with any children adds to the disbelief. I guess if we had living, breathing reflections of all that time around us, we’d be more cognizant of just how much time has passed. But we opted for career over children. We met in college and were instant friends because we were both so incredibly passionate about our fields of study. We spent lots of nights inside the radiant heating of our respective dorm rooms studying together. It wasn’t until after college that we actually became more than friends. We ended up at the same University attempting to get master’s degrees. That’s when we realized just how much we completed each other’s life. I was then living in a one bedroom apartment off campus. This was where I tried to woo my wife to be. I was certainly more geek than romantic back then. Yet, I really did all I could do when it came to the romance department. I grew up with a single mom so I learned to cook pretty early. I started inviting my now girlfriend for romantic dinners at my apartment. Trying to stick with the romantic vibe, I lit probably 30 candles. It was indeed romantic but it nearly choked out the HVAC equipment. I kept doing this over and over with each meal not realizing that all the burnt wax was causing the air filter to have almost zero air flow. The heat pump was running all the time at one point so I just ended up checking the air filter. It was completely slicked over with wax. Romancing my wife almost killed that heat pump.
