The best little pet
I might be a bit of a pet snob, and I’m ready to take the necessary steps to improve my behavior.
See, I grew up with every sort of animal, then worked at a pet store for 5 years, and then pursued an Animal Sciences degree in college. That being said, I decided long ago which were the best animals to cohabitate with, and which ones should probably be left in the wild. One of the things I never understood was why people insist on owning hamsters and gerbils for pets. In my experience, they’re never friendly or full of personality so much as they just bite every hand they come in contact with. My dear little pet, Papi, on the other hand, is an amazing critter to own. He’s a spikey haired little guinea pig and I happen to think he’s the best small animal on earth. The only problem with Papi is his ability to dirty the house and indoor air quality. See, Papi requires a lot of hay each day to survive, and unfortunately this hay ends up all over the floor as well as the air returns for our HVAC system. Once the hay particles have worked their way into the ductwork, it’s just a matter of time before they’re all jammed up in the heating and cooling equipment. The air filters for our air conditioner as well as central furnace are constantly filled with pieces of hay and shavings, and we have to call out the HVAC dealership in town on a regular basis to clean up our ventilation system. At this point, the heating and cooling technicians all know Papi and I by name!
