The House Was Too Sealed
When my pal and I purchased our older home, my hubby and I decided to seal as much of it as my pal and I could in order to keep our Heating and A/C treated air inside.
My pal and I didn’t have the cash to update the windows and doors instantly, so sealing all the cracks was a more affordable opening for us.
My hubby decided to invest her extra time on the weekend to seal everything off and she did her own research on how to effectively do it. When she was done, I noticed that she used a ton of supplies, but I didn’t question her technique since I wasn’t the one who researched the familiar way to do it. A few afternoons later, I felt like the air quality in our home had decreased. The air was stuffy and our entire family was sick; Despite my hubby’s reluctance, my pal and I hired an Heating and A/C professional to come look at our furnace. My pal and I had assumed that something was malfunctioning and causing the air to feel so different. The Heating and A/C professional noticed the DIY sealing that my hubby did all over the doors and windows and she began questioning him about it. According to the Heating and A/C professional, she said that we’d over-sealed the house! I didn’t even know this was possible! The home was so tightly sealed that the air was stagnant inside and airborne illnesses were floating around with nowhere to go. The Heating and A/C professional recommended my pal and I run an media air cleaner to help transport and purify the air for the meantime. She was adamant that my pal and I hire an Heating and A/C professional next year to seal our home though, because they knew exactly how much was needed to seal but still leave comfort.
