The HVAC student thought he knew everything.

He had recently gotten out of the Air Force where he worked as an HVAC technician

I have been the instructor of many HVAC classes over the years, and I have seen many arrogant students come through the door. Many of them have family members who are HVAC technicians and they think they know everything. They are the worst because they will try to contradict everything you say and tell you you’re wrong. I remind them I am a seasoned HVAC technician and the owner of an HVAC company or I wouldn’t be the instructor of the class. Usually that is enough to slow them down a bit, but last month I had a student who didn’t back down. I was getting so angry with him, that I was ready to kick him out of class. I listened to his arguments, and several times I had to step back and think about what he was saying. Although he said it in a different way, he said the same thing I said, but he was getting through to the other students. After one class, I asked him to stay over. I was talking to him about his attitude. He stood at attention the entire time I was talking, and I knew there was something different about him. I suddenly realized he was the son of one of my other HVAC instructors. He had recently gotten out of the Air Force where he worked as an HVAC technician. He had to attend this class so he could get his state certification. I welcomed him to the class, but I asked him not to show me up in front of the other students. He actually blushed and apologized.
