Winter freaks me out

If I am being even-handed with you I can be a bit of a chicken.

Periodically I get entirely concerned or paranoid about things in life and our fear makes me act irrationally. I can be really neurotic and really exasperated when I let our brain get the best of me. This is one of the things I struggle with living alone these nights in our own little home. I certainly enjoy living alone – there’s no one to tiptoe around or worry about exasperating. My house is clean when I return home, and life is less stressful. However, there is one time of year that scares me – winter! Winters around here are cold. Every day, we brave below-freezing temperatures, with torrential snowfall and plenty of ice. This means having to worry about heating and cooling systems. You don’t want your forced air heating system malfunctioning when you’re in bed. You also don’t want to have the heating plan fail in a blizzard, when no one can get to your home, and you really don’t want to be alone during a heating failure – you might have even less heat to comfort you. This is my greatest fear each year, as the cold season approaches. That’s when I remind myself not to worry – but I need to be proactive. I call my heating and cooling technician. They make sure my heating system is in great shape before the first snowflake falls. Thank God for my trustworthy heating company – otherwise, I’d have to live in the South!
